School Board Elections

Early Voting: 22-30 April

Election Day: Saturday, May 4, 2024

One important item on the ballot this election is for us to vote for our North East Independent School District (NEISD) Board Trustee to represent our district.

New NEISD District

This is the first election with the newly adopted District Trustee map.  On December 13, 2021, the North East ISD Board of Trustees adopted single member district (SMD) maps following Census 2020 for the purpose of electing trustees to the school board. Previously, we were in District 7 but we are now in District 1 on the new Trustee map.

After 24 years on the board, trustee Sandy Hughey is not seeking reelection. So this year we have two new candidates from which you can choose to serve as the NEISD District 1 Trustee.

Lisa Thompson, 43, was a teacher and reading specialist at Jackson Keller, Stone Oak, Tuscany Heights and West Avenue elementary schools.

Michael Gurwitz, 76, taught math in San Antonio classrooms for 18 years, most of them at Northwest Vista College, until retiring in 2021.

Your Vote Counts

We all know that our local School Board of Trustees has the important responsibility when it comes to educating our youth.  If you have not done so already, take a few minutes to find out a bit about these two candidates.  Here are links to some information they have posted for their campaign.
