Flag Tradition

Did you wonder who put up all of the flags on the mailboxes to celebrate the Fourth of July?

Our little community has several traditions that help us continue to be a special place to live.  The flags began with individual residents posting their own flags.  In 2014 some of our home owners undertook a project to add a small flag to each mailbox.

Instead of asking the HOA for funding, they rolled up their sleeves, picked up paint brushes, and opened cans of black paint.

For a modest price, they offered to refresh the front of the mailboxes that had faded during the years.  The homeowners were delighted and contributed a modest amount to defray costs for the paint, the small flags, and the little holders.

At that time, I was looking to purchase my home. When Lee Wilkins and Mary Pruess showed up with their paint brushes I knew this was the community I wanted.

Since I was coming from a “traditional” community with a mandatory HOA that only knew how to keep asking for more and more money, I was delighted to find the Gardens of Oak Hollow.

I am proud to be part of this community with a strong community spirit, and residents who are willing to step up and do what they can to keep our traditions alive.

The flag tradition continues.  Our Community posts the small mailbox flags four times each year on these special days:

  • Memorial Day
  • Flag Day
  • Fourth of July
  • Veterans Day
