I recently read this quip: “The Bible tells us to love our neighbors, and also to love our enemies; probably because generally they are the same people.”
I thought about that for a bit and pondered whether that was true here in the Gardens. I’ve been a resident of the Gardens for around 24 years and I believe that the majority of our residents would say that it’s a friendly, wonderful place to live.
I will admit that there have been a few times that I seriously contemplated purchasing a flock of very pink flamingoes to put in my front yard to make a statement. Feeling defiant and hurt that someone, a neighbor, had not spoken or acted in a friendly or professional manner. But after calmer thoughts prevailed, I decided not to. After all, what would that do to help restore the peace and good relations that I deem extremely important.
I know we don’t always agree on the “how”, but usually we do agree on the “why”. I hope that we all continue our individual and concerted efforts to preserve the beauty and uniqueness of our small community following the established guidelines and restrictions.
I also sincerely hope that as residents and neighbors we will care for each other and be thoughtful in our words and actions.
I’m confident that the new board will work as a team, continuing their efforts of maintaining and improving while working through the challenges. They need our support and encouragement and a simple “Thank You” means a lot.
I want to take this opportunity to express my sincere appreciation and gratitude to all Board Members and Block Captains that I’ve been privileged to work with. This team of volunteers are dedicated to serving the community and give freely of their time and talent to make this “the very special place that we are blessed to call home”.
Thank you for the opportunity to serve as your President.
My Best Wishes to All of You,
Janell
