Truth in Taxation

When I reviewed my Notice of Appraised Value for my home, I noticed a format change.  This statement no longer shows the “total estimated tax” — just the individual tax estimates.  So I looked into this change.

New Law

The 2019 Legislature changed the way that owners are “advised of potential tax liabilities and was designed to foster greater transparency in the tax rate adoption process.”  

The new website details your property taxes by each taxing entity and now includes a “Voter Approval Rate”.  This is the maximum tax increase allowed by law without triggering an election. To exceed this tax rate, most taxing jurisdictions must seek voter approval.  You might find the new website with your property taxes interesting:

The new website provides some interesting information for Residents.  In addition to many other useful links, they included tips on Cyber Safety – a topic we all need to be mindful about.
