I am a BIG fan of the McDonald Observatory out in West Texas. This month’s newsletter included an announcement about the Texas Science Festival 2023. Most of the sessions are online so I thought I would look into a couple.
Here are just two of the sessions that caught my attention:
Communication & the Aging Brain: Exploring Aphasia, Dementia & Healthy Aging
Concerns about stroke and cognitive decline are rampant in our rapidly aging society. Maya Henry is world-renowned for her research on language aphasia, which refers to the loss of ability to understand or express speech, and dementia. The Texas Aging and Longevity Consortium annually presents its UT Excellence in Research on Aging Award to a scientist and Henry is this year’s winner.
February 24 – 1:30 to 2:30 PM
The Stars Are Big and Bright in West Texas
Join the McDonald Observatory for views of several targets from the dark skies in West Texas, where the stars are big and bright. Your hosts will teach you about several deep sky objects, and (if weather permits) share live views from a camera attached to a research-grade 16″ telescope at the Frank N. Bash Visitors Center.
February 22 – 7:30 to 8:30 PM
