Veterans Day

Thank You For Your Service

It seems there is a day for everything. There is Cheeseburger Day, Hot Dog Day, Grandparents Day, and even National Pet Day to name a few. Some are obviously more important than others, however Veterans Day, celebrated on November 11th, should be near the top of the list of celebrated days.

Veterans Day, originally known as Armistice Day, was established on November 11, 1919 commemorating the armistice, or WWI cease-fire. The armistice went into effect on the 11th hour of the 11th day of the 11th month in 1918 and declared a legal holiday in 1938 to honor veterans of World War I. Congress passed a bill after the Korean War, in 1954, to change Armistice Day to Veterans Day to honor all American military veterans not just those serving in WWI.

Our military veterans have dedicated a portion of their lives to the defense of our country and far too many have made the ultimate sacrifice. Our veterans have endured the hardships of family separation, missing birthdays and graduations, and celebrating anniversaries and holidays whenever they can. They certainly are a deserving group of people honored on this very special day.

Our Community will proudly post our flags to honor all Veterans on this special day.

When you see a veteran, say “thank you” to let them know you appreciate their sacrifices.
