Well, I guess the title says it all… I am indeed moving out of our beloved Gardens Of Oak Hollow. I am not going far, but it is time for me to do some major downsizing and move into a Retirement Community. This opportunity appears MUCH sooner than I anticipated, but here it is.
My Journey
Actually when I purchased my home in 2014, I was planning on making this move in 5 or 6 years. After becoming part of this special community. I postponed that idea. But after my medical “adventure” last fall, I decided to revive my plan and expected a 1 to 2 year wait (that was the quoted waiting period for the places I was investigating).
Out of the blue, my top choice became available now and I decided to go for it.
From the time I moved into the Gardens I have felt it this was a special place. But honestly, my first years here I did not feel very connected. I tend to be shy and did not get out-n-about the community much.
That changed about three years ago when I learned Rebecca was moving to Florida and someone needed to take over the website. Since I enjoy working on my computer, I volunteered. Shortly thereafter I decided to send out a newsletter. I did it weekly at first, then changed to every two weeks. In each Newsletter, I try to include at least three articles: one focused on our Community; one on local interest (or history); and one about whatever catches my attention that week; with maybe some humor tossed in for fun.
What has surprised me is how much fun this has been for me. I still don’t get out-n-about very much, but I feel like I have been chatting with each of you. So I not only feel more connected, I feel that I am contributing something valuable for our Community.
Your Journey
I am telling you about my journey in hopes that one or two of you may feel the same and would like a way to be more involved. I feel so strongly that this would be good for you (and the community) that I want to offer my assistance for 6 months to get you up to speed and going.
All you need is:
(1) a computer you are comfortable using
(2) the willingness to take on this project
I am confident that I can teach you how to use the software program, WordPress, that is the heart of the website and MailerLite, the program to send out the email Newsletter.
