As you know the 2020 Olympics has just wrapped up on 8 August. I have always admired the athletes who train so hard to earn their place on our Olympics team.
However in 2014 I became an even bigger fan of the Paralympics when I was introduced to Amy.
At 19 years of age, Amy Purdy went from being an active passionate snowboarder to a double-leg amputee due to illness. When she entered into the hospital she was given less than a 2% chance of survival, put on life support and placed into a coma.
Listen to Amy tell her own story in this 2011 TED Talk.
In March 2014, Amy journeyed to Sochi, Russia where she won a bronze medal at the Sochi Paralympics.
I was introduced to Amy three days after she won her bronze medal at the Paralympic Games. Amy went from the Paralympic medal ceremony to the ballroom floor in Hollywood. She delivered a stunning performance for her first dance on opening night of Dancing With the Stars. I was smitten. After ten weeks of remarkable performances, Amy was first runner-up to the Champion.
Enjoy watching true champions compete in the upcoming Paralympics.
